July 13, 2024

Middle Peninsula African-American Genealogical and Historical Society (MPAAGHS) will hold its monthly meeting virtually on Saturday, July 13, 2024, at 11:00 AM Eastern Time. The meeting will feature a talk entitled “New and Upcoming Projects from Virginia Untold.” The talk will be given by Lydia Neuroth who is the Project Manager for the Virginia Untold project at the Library of Virginia.

Virginia Untold: the African American Narrative provides digital access to records that document some of the lived experiences of enslaved and free Black and multiracial people in the Library of Virginia's collections. Project Manager Lydia Neuroth will describe newly digitized records available through Virginia Untold including several “Free Negro Registers” from various regions of Virginia as well as future digitization projects that might aid researchers and genealogists. She will also provide a project overview, demonstrate conducting searches in different databases, and discuss outreach and engagement opportunities for the project.

She has also worked as a historic interpreter for Preservation Virginia in Richmond, Virginia and as a research associate at James Madison's Montpelier in Orange County, Virginia where she focused her research contributions to the interpretation of the sites' enslaved histories. She has worked for the Southern Historical Collection at UNC Chapel Hill where she built tools for researchers specifically around records of slavery.
