MPAAGHS Old Place Names Project
The fact that place names have changed over the years can provide a challenge for the family historian. Many place names found in old records and in oral history no longer exist; some locales may even have undergone multiple name changes. These listings of place names are designed to help the researcher determine where places that no longer exist were located. The initial phase of this project includes the counties of Essex, King and Queen, King William and Middlesex. Other Middle Peninsula/Northern Neck counties will be added in the future. Persons who have additional old place name information for those counties presently included or who can provide information for other counties in the area are asked to email mpaaghs.va@gmail.com.
