African-American Family Reunion Workshop at Meeting
March 14, 2015
Middle Peninsula African-American Genealogical and Historical Society of Virginia (MPAAGHS) will hold its monthly meeting on Saturday, March 14, 2015, at 11:00 a.m. at Essex Public Library, 117 North Church Lane (Rt. 17), Tappahannock, Virginia (map). All persons who are interested in African-American genealogy and history are invited to attend. Experienced researchers and novices alike are welcome.
The meeting will feature an African-American Family Reunion Workshop presented by Pamela B. Williams, veteran Reunion Planner. This workshop will focus on the customs and traditions of African-American family reunions. The role and impact that slavery had on the formation of these reunions will be examined as well as the structure of today’s reunions. An African-American family reunion that began in 1932 and still survives today will be featured.
