Visit to Historic King William County Property

May 26, 2012

Members of Middle Peninsula African-American Genealogical and Historical Society (MPAAGHS) will visit Jubilee Farm, 7116 Acquinton Church Road, King William, Virginia, on Saturday, May 26, 2012, at 11:00 a.m. (map).

Jubilee Farm is the name given to two adjacent 18th century plantations, Aspen Grove and Cool Spring. In 1994, these properties were purchased by Dr. Walter P. Lomax, of Chalfont, Pennsylvania, a retired medical doctor who is the president of Lomax Enterprises. Jubilee Farm consists of almost 800 acres, and is the property upon which Dr. Lomax’s ancestors were held enslaved. Although the Cool Spring plantation house no longer stands, the Aspen Grove plantation "big house" has survived and the present owner has made additions to it.

Dr. Walter Lomax’s daughter, Mary Claire Lomax, Esquire, board chairperson of the African American Museum in Philadelphia, will speak to the group about the history of Jubilee Farm. Tours of the property will be conducted. Dr. Alvin C. Lomax, King William resident and first cousin of Dr. Walter Lomax, is the coordinator of the visit to Jubilee Farm. The public is invited to attend. For further information about the visit to Jubilee Farm or about MPAAGHS, call 804.758.5163. For assistance on the day of the visit, call 804.769.0649.
