Sarah Dillard Pope of The Menokin Foundation to address the Monthly Meeting

Sarah Dillard Pope, Executive Director of The Menokin Foundation will address the Middle Peninsula African-American Genealogical and Historical Society (MPAAGHS) at its monthly meeting on Saturday, June 12, 2010, at 11:00 a.m. The meeting will take place at the Essex Public Library in Tappahannock, VA (map).
The presentation will cover the development of the 1,000 acre Menokin site in Richmond County from the 1650s through the present by looking at a recent chain of title conducted for the property. Information on the people that developed, lived and worked at Menokin from pre-colonial occupation through the 20th century will be discussed, including recent research findings on Menokin’s slave population. The presentation will provide a brief overview of the current work taking place at Menokin, which is now owned and managed by the Menokin Foundation.
